Patrick R. Bush Receives 2010 Larry A, Swaney Award at MCA Annual Meeting

February 1, 2010, Glenview, IL -- The Metal Construction Association has recognized Patrick R. Bush, retired from United States Steel Corporation, for his service to the metal construction industry and the association by awarding him the Larry A. Swaney Award at its 2010 MCA Annual Meeting in Naples, FL.

Patrick Bush began his career with U.S. Steel during college. He graduated from Waynesburg University with a degree in Business Administration and was hired by U.S. Steel in 1967.

Pat consistently moved up the ladder afterward, becoming district sales manager in Houston in 1981 and later regional manager of sales in the south and southwest for plate and structural products. In 1991, he became manager of marketing for plate products in Pittsburgh and eventually advanced to marketing positions for sheet products with a focus on the construction markets.

Pat's involvement with the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) began with the Fabricated Pipe and Tank Committee in 1991, which he later chaired. He served as chairman of the OSHA-SENRAC Steel Coalition that included AISI, the Steel Deck Institute, Steel Joist Institute, Metal Construction Association and the Metal Building Manufacturers Association.

A member of MCA since 1995, Pat served on its board of directors for 5 years. He says his proudest accomplishment with MCA is helping the association get co-funding with AISI for the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) and The Metal Initiative (TMI). He acted as the liaison between MCA and AISI and he was on the committee that created the business plans for MRA and TMI.

The Larry A. Swaney Award was created in 2002 to honor one of MCA's founders and its first president. Larry Swaney worked tirelessly for the success of the association and the betterment of the metal construction industry. To keep this spirit of contribution alive, MCA has honored others in the industry that have shown similar dedication and achievement. Past recipients of the Swaney Award include:

  • 2008 Delbert F. Boring
  • 2006 Harold Schroth
  • 2005 Bill Croucher
  • 2004 Sam W. Milnark
  • 2003 John Mattingly
